Over the next year, Taiwan-based notebook PC maker Acer will start to produce desktop units under the Acer brand…and a senior Acer official told BetaNews yesterday that a PC-based game machine is one of the ideas being bandied about.
Really! A PC based gaming machine. Really Acer!!! Didn’t Microsoft already do this and named it; I don’t know. The freakin XBOX!!! I didn’t see this one coming. There have been rumors about Dell,Canon and Sega developing consoles but Acer’s announcement is unbelievable. Although I can not blame Acer for jumping into the gaming world since video games are 17 billion dollar a year industry. I hope all corporation big or small can capitalize on this growing market. I am curious about how Acer will develop there gaming unit. Will it be a gaming PC like Alienware or console driven like the first Microsoft Xbox? Staying power is another issue something Sega and Atari no all too well. Consoles typically lose a ton of money when they are first released (except for Nintendo) can Acer’s PC gaming machine withstand time. Good luck Acer I hope you know what your are getting yourself into.
